CenteringPregnancy(R)
CenteringPregnancy is an exciting model of group prenatal care that improves outcomes for women and babies, improves satisfaction in prenatal care, builds supportive community, and helps women feel more prepared for labor and birth than traditional prenatal care.
Because so much information is shared in group, it functions as prenatal care AND childbirth education. Each group lasts two hours and includes private assessment time with your midwife. CenteringPregnancy gets you involved with your own self-care by teaching you to measure and record your own weight, blood pressure, and urinalysis results. Pregnant women have their babies' best interests at heart and are careful about accurately recording this information.
Before joining your CenteringPregnancy group, you will have two one-on-one prenatal visits with your midwife. In the first visit, we carefully discuss your personal, family, medical, and birth histories and sign the initial paperwork. In the second visit, we'll make a plan for your care and schedule you in a group with women whose due dates are similar.
Groups meet every other week. At 36 weeks, we begin weekly prenatal checkups. On the weeks where there is no group meeting, you will come in for a one-on-one visit with your midwife.
If issues arise that require one-on-one attention or if you or your midwife request it, one-on-one visits can always be scheduled.
CenteringPregnancy(R) improves outcomes and satisfaction at the same cost as traditional prenatal care.
